We joined Prince William County Public Schools, educators, students, and the community to celebrate the ribbon-cutting of Woodbridge Elementary School.

Designed around how students learn, the new K-5 school offers flexible learning environments that encourage students to move, collaborate, create, and problem-solve. From the central learning stair and extended learning areas to the two-story media center, spaces throughout the school support connection, curiosity and hands-on learning.

The result is a learning environment that gives educators new opportunities to teach and gives students more ways to engage, explore and grow throughout their school day.

A little look at an end-of-summer palette inspired by sunny days and time spent by the water. Coastal blues, warm yellows and oranges, playful patterns, and layered textures come together to create a bright, inviting feel.

A little look at the details behind the design for J. H. Lea Elementary and Middle School in partnership with Pender County Schools.

These fabric and felt selections will bring color, texture, and personality to seating nooks in the media centers, creating inviting spaces for students to read, collaborate, and connect.

A building’s next chapter may already be embedded within what exists.

Adaptive reuse starts with understanding the structure, systems, infrastructure, and site conditions already in place. Engineering helps uncover what to retain, adapt, and transform for a new use.

Written by Communications Intern Olivia Purefoy, read our latest article, “How Engineering Unlocks a Building’s Next Chapter,” to explore how engineering helps turn existing conditions into opportunities for what comes next.

Historic industrial campuses are more than a collection of buildings. They are interconnected places shaped by history, infrastructure, and community.

On Sept. 11, Tom Liebel, will present “Adaptive Use Strategies for Large-Scale Historic Industrial Campuses” at the APT DC Fall 2026 Symposium, drawing on the adaptive reuse of Baltimore’s Crown Cork & Seal manufacturing campus.

The William & Mary Fine and Performing Arts Center has earned a 2026 AIA Virginia Honor Award for its thoughtful design and impact on arts education.

A renovated Phi Beta Kappa Memorial Hall and new music building bring theatre, dance and music together, with flexible performance spaces, a central “music street,” improved accessibility and carefully designed acoustics and daylighting.

Together, the spaces create a connected environment where students can learn, collaborate and experience the arts.

The former Carver Staff Development Center has been thoughtfully transformed into the Carver Early Education Center, preserving the building’s role in the community while creating eight dedicated pre-kindergarten classrooms for 120 students.

The renovation brings new life to the facility with classroom-connected restrooms, a commercial kitchen, updated building systems, and enhanced security features, creating a welcoming and supportive environment for young learners and their families.

Our team joined educators, families, and AACPS community leaders to celebrate the transformation with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, marking the center’s next chapter as a dedicated space for early learning.
