Did you know if you hire someone that doesn’t carry workers comp insurance and they get hurt or even die from the work on your property that you could be sued?
Every homeowner should make sure the company they hire is insured!
I’ve seen workers come in contact with power lines, roofers slide off roof, ladders fall, etc. Some seriously injured and some not survive it and the family sues the homeowner.
Homeowners should make sure the company has General Liability insurance as well, as accidents happen. Exhaust pipe for water heater slid below roof line and busted water heater pipe and flooded house when homeowners weren’t there to get water shut off. Insurance paid for that homeowner all new floors.
It is the homeowners responsibility to make sure the workers/company is insured and familiarize themselves of what a COI (certificate of insurance looks like) because if asked, most will say yes they have it but can’t provide the correct documentation to prove it.
Why this is important to us? Someone else can be cheaper if they don’t carry the proper insurance and that makes it hard to compete when trying to do things the right way to protect everyone involved, with proper insurance.
