Baskervill is honored to announce that William & Mary’s Integrated Science Center 4 has received Gold in the education category of the prestigious Interior Design Excellence Awards, presented by IIDA Virginia & West Virginia Chapter and the American Society of Interior Designers/ASID of Interior Designers. Designed to support interdisciplinary research and scientific discovery, ISC 4 brings students, faculty, and researchers across disciplines together in a light-filled, highly connected environment.

As the days grow shorter and the leaves start to turn, we’re making time to step away from our screens and into the season. This week, teams across our offices traded desks for walking trails, yoga mats, pickleball courts, and bike paths during a fall activity day designed to reconnect with each other and recharge. We may be back at our desks today, but we’re carrying a bit of that fresh air energy with us.

Research is always evolving, and Chesapeake Bay Hall at William and Mary's Virginia Institute of Marine Science & Batten School of Coastal and Marine Sciences was designed with that in mind, replacing an aging research facility with an adaptable environment tailored for the institution’s mission.

This , we’re raising a mug to the evolution of office coffee—from a burnt pot in the break room to a deliberate part of workplace strategy.

“Want to grab a coffee?” has long been shorthand for connection, so it’s no surprise that a once purely functional office amenity has become a cornerstone of hospitality-driven workplace design. Today, coffee bars, lounges, and shared spaces are being positioned to bring different teams into the same orbit. The strategy is in the overlap: when people cross paths more often, knowledge travels faster, relationships form beyond departments, and quick conversations can resolve questions before they become meetings.

At the Institute, visitors move through galleries defined just as much by atmosphere as they are by archives.

Created in collaboration with Local Projects, the signature exhibition ‘Expanding Freedom’ utilizes ambient lighting, layered media, and shifting sightlines to create an immersive environment within the preserved structure of Main Street Station. Meandering lines woven into the floor echo the path of Shockoe Creek and guide visitors through the experience before leading into The Lab—an educational gathering space fueling community voices.

Rather than incorporating static walls that block light and restrict flow, the citizenM Washington DC Georgetown utilizes step-downs, partitions, greenery, and millwork to establish distinct thresholds between high-energy lounges and quiet work alcoves. This fluid spatial landscape is brought to life with a layered mix of contemporary art, plush textiles, and bold furnishings—creating a space that feels collected, not decorated.

The North Building at Kinsale Center transforms a 1960s-era structure into a high-performing workplace—stripping it back, opening it up, and rebuilding it to support how Kinsale Insurance Company Capital Group operates today and into the future.

The original concrete envelope was replaced with a sleek glass facade, exposing the interior to daylight and sweeping views. As a completely new addition, the sun-soaked double-height lobby introduces a warm and welcoming first impression.
