October is officially here, which means we have one very important question:Ā Are you decorating for the season or the holiday?Ā šŸ‚šŸŽƒ

Are you team fall, with warm tones, pumpkins, cozy textures, and decor that carries you straight through Thanksgiving?

Or are you team Halloween, with ghosts, bats, skeletons, and a little spooky personality taking over the house for October?

We want to know:Ā Fall or Halloween?Ā Tell us which one is taking over your home this month. šŸ‘‡

This month, we’re recognizing three milestones that represent years of craftsmanship, commitment, leadership, and being an important part of the JRC team.

šŸŽ‰ Anthony D. | 15 years as a Trade Partner
For fifteen years, Anthony’s craftsmanship and partnership have been part of countless JRC projects. We’re incredibly grateful for the trust and consistency he continues to bring to our team.

šŸŽ‰ Adam H. | 15 years as a Trade Partner
Fifteen years of showing up, doing great work, and being someone our team can count on. Adam has been a valued part of JRC’s extended team for a decade and a half, and we’re thankful for every year.

šŸŽ‰ Mark A. | 5 years as Project Manager
Five years of leading projects, supporting our clients, and helping bring the details together from start to finish. Mark’s leadership and dedication continue to make an impact across JRC.

Milestones like these mean a lot to us. Thank you, Anthony, Adam, and Mark, for the years you’ve invested in JRC and the work we get to do together. Here’s to what’s ahead!

A primary bathroom should do more than get you through the morning routine. It should make the everyday feel a little more considered. āœØšŸ›

This renovation brings together clean lines, warm wood tones, marble surfaces, and polished fixtures to create a space that feels calm without sacrificing function. From the floating vanity to the expansive glass shower and built-in storage, every part of the room was designed to work together while making the most of the space.

Because when you use a room every single day, the details matter. The storage you don’t have to think about. The shower that gives you room to move. The lighting that changes how the space feels. The finishes that still feel right years later.

A primary bathroom may be one of the more private spaces in your home, but it can have a pretty big impact on how you start and end your day.

If your primary bathroom no longer fits the way you live, it may be time to rethink what’s possible within your home. Comment ā€œHOMEā€ to start the conversation.

And based on everyone we’ve built one for, we’re not entirely convinced about that first part. 🤣

The kitchen is one of the hardest-working spaces in a home. It’s where mornings begin, everyone seems to gather, meals are made, and everyday life happens. When the layout no longer works or the space simply doesn’t fit the way your family lives, a renovation can give you more than a new look.

It can mean better flow. More functional storage. Room to gather. Materials chosen to last. And a kitchen that feels like it was always meant to be part of your home.

At James River Construction, we look beyond what needs to change and consider how the entire space can work better for the way you live.

Turns out, you didn’t need a new house. You needed to rethink the one you have.

Good design gets the attention, but it starts with a well-built space.

From the screened porch made for everyday living to the custom details carried throughout the interior, this project is a great example of what happens when thoughtful construction and thoughtful design work together.

Every opening, finish, built-in, and architectural detail creates the foundation for a home that feels collected, functional, and completely its own.

A room you may not think you need… until you have one. šŸ§¶šŸŖ”šŸŽØ

For the crafters, makers, and anyone who always seems to have a project in progress, a dedicated craft room can completely change how your home functions.

Instead of pulling supplies out at the kitchen table and packing everything away when it’s time for dinner, this space gives creativity a permanent home. Built-in storage keeps supplies organized and within reach, while a long work surface creates plenty of room to sew, paint, scrapbook, wrap gifts, or tackle whatever project is next.

It’s a good reminder that your home doesn’t have to follow a standard floor plan. The best spaces are the ones designed around how you actually spend your time.

What room would you add to your home if you had the extra space?

September has a way of bringing us back around the table. šŸ‚

As the calendar starts filling with fall dinners, birthdays, holiday plans, and more reasons to gather, the dining room becomes one of the hardest-working spaces in the home.

It’s where meals are shared, conversations stretch a little longer, game nights unfold, and eventually, holiday traditions take their place around the table.

Designed with natural light, warm wood tones, and timeless finishes, this dining room was created for all of it. Not just the occasions you plan for, but the everyday moments in between.

Because thoughtful design isn’t only about how a space looks. It’s about creating a home that’s ready for the way you live, gather, and celebrate.

This might just be the best time of year for a screened-in porch. šŸ‚ Summer isn’t officially over, but we’re entering that stretch of the year when being outside starts sounding better and better.

And that’s exactly why screened-in porches are such a popular addition. They give you the feeling of being outdoors with a little more comfort and protection from the elements. Fewer bugs, more shade, shelter from an unexpected rain shower, and a dedicated space that can be enjoyed well beyond the summer months.

But what we really appreciate about these spaces is how much they can change the way a home is used. Morning coffee moves outside. Family dinners have a new setting. Football games become an excuse to gather. A quiet evening at home can feel like a retreat without going anywhere at all.

When designed to flow naturally from the existing home, a screened-in porch becomes more than an outdoor space. It becomes another living room, dining room, gathering place, or a little bit of all three.

More space to live doesn’t always have to mean more space inside.
