It’s the thoughtfully considered details that create continuity throughout a home.

Bulkhead crown molding, like the molding in this kitchen, adds so much without trying too hard. An oversized solid white oak front door with a warm stain and brass hardware? Yes please, every time! And we’ll always be fans of plinth blocks for the classic charm they bring while beautifully bridging the transition between door casings, baseboards, and shoe molding.

Because each floor of this home has a slightly lower ceiling height as you work your way up, we scaled down the casing, baseboard, and plinth sizes on each level. The profiles remain consistent, but their proportions feel right within each space.

Proof that good craftsmanship is not just about the individual details, but how thoughtfully they work together throughout the entire home ✔️

A closer look at the details.

We picture-framed this custom three-member window casing to accept the wall-to-wall Carrara marble, giving the stone a clean termination point while keeping the casing profile intact.

One of those small details that takes a little extra planning, but makes all the difference in the finished room.

Not your ordinary Well House

We clad a modern out-swinging exterior door with wide vertical oak boards and handmade iron hardware to make you look twice and wonder “just how old is that door?” 🤨

The interior received its own fair share of timeless treatment in the form of tongue & groove southern yellow pine all the way up the underside of the pyramid roof, sparing no expense for detail.

Why does millwork make such a difference?

It’s not about making a statement. It’s about creating balance, adding depth, and highlighting the architecture that’s already there.

This 20-foot tall foyer features panel moulding, two-member crown moulding, and white oak handrails on a powder-coated custom ornamental iron railing.

I’ve always believed the best millwork doesn’t beg for attention. Poorly installed trim stands out immediately, while quality craftsmanship blends seamlessly into the home, as if it were always meant to be there.

It’s been a minute… yeah okay, more like seven years. 😅

Life got busy. We got married, started a family, and I spent the last several years doing what I love, managing custom home builds and renovations. We just never got around to sharing any of it.

Figured it was about time to dust this page off and start anew.

These are a few stills from one of my favorite projects. Nestled on more than 60 acres along the Rappahannock River, this home was thoughtfully designed and built to capture the character of 19th-century architecture. It was an honor to partner with River City Builders to help bring this vision to life.

One of my favorite parts about this project is that it never really ended. We’ve been called back time and time again for additions and new projects around the property. Since the first shovel hit the ground, we’ve welcomed three boys into our family, and now our oldest is getting ready to start first grade. It’s been pretty special to grow alongside this project over the years.
