According to friends at the African Centres for Lightning and Electromagnetics Network - ACLENet, an estimated 6,000 to 24,000 people are killed by lightning across the world, with many more injured.

While lightning only lasts a fraction of a second, the aftermath can last a lifetime. Unfortunately, these strike survivor stories are often left untold and many survivors struggle to find adequate medical care for their long-term injuries and debilitating disabilities.

Most lightning strike survivors have no visible scars, but their invisible injuries often go untreated.

LLP is always available to enlighten our friends in the media about the important safety benefits that lightning protection systems provide for families to fortifying their homes against nature's LEADING weather hazard.

International Lightning Safety Day (ILSD), was initiated to commemorate a tragic lightning incident that occurred in Africa on June 28, 2011. The tragedy occurred at Runyanya Primary School in Uganda, where 18 children were killed and 38 others injured. This day is commemorated as a reminder of the need for safe and effective lightning protection, proactive lightning safety measures and improved lightning education in the world's most vulnerable communities.

LLP is proud to support and commemorate International Lightning Safety Day 2026.
