We were called out to a customer's house to address the issue of the garage door not working. The original issue was thought to be the garage door opener which is a very common assessment homeowners conclude was the issue. You push the button and the garage door does not open and close properly.
So the decision was made to purchase a new opener from a major big box hardware store and employing them to install a new garage door opener. After the installation of the new opener and several callbacks because the garage door still did not work properly the customer decided to do some research on possible causes and realize that maybe it's something a little bit more involved than just the opener itself. After a quick inspection we were able to identify there was an issue with the garage door springs and a unknown reason of a shift of half an inch of the cable drum to the left. This shift caused the door to open unevenly and create friction on the left side of the horizontal track while the door tried to open. Realizing the Springs were over 45 plus years old and knowing that they were reaching the end of their cycle life. Taking into consideration the age of the customer and knowing if something was to happen with the current double spring setup. We recommended replacing the Springs with a four spring option with an extended cycle life. Changing the Springs out with allow us to reset the cable drums balance the door and allow it to transition into the horizontal position as designed. After changing out the springs and getting the door operational we complimentary changed out the old metal rollers as for some had bearing issues.
After following industry standard engineering specifications. We were able to ensure the door operated smoothly and efficiently as designed. Having a professional properly diagnose the issue not only saves time and money but insurers the customer has a safe and working garage door.
