They needed more ventilation! 💨
This home had no intake vents AND no exhaust vents. So what did we do?

We added a “Smartvent” to keep the holes and vents in the soffit from distracting from the classical architecture of the home, and provide another way for the intake.

For the exhaust of the attic, we removed the top course of slate and cut slots in the ridge along its length to allow the hot air to escape. We fabricated and installed a custom copper ridge vent, which will weather in a few months to a nice patina and blend in with the slate while providing exhaust for the attic and a nice crisp line across the ridge.

Take a look at the beautiful (and original!) Reveille House, located on Cary Street, where Saunders removed the old original slate and updated it with modern, high-temp ice and water shields, new stainless fasteners, and all new copper flashings! We also reinstalled the original slate to keep historic character, but this allows the roof system to perform better for another 100+ years. 👍🏼

TPO retrofits are a great option for troublesome aged metal roofs. Insulation is custom-fitted between the ribs of the existing metal roof system, and TPO is secured, creating a lasting, trouble-free roof for decades!
