We are under a Heat Advisory from Noon til 8pm and for the next week we will have triple digits. Texas heat is no joke, and we know you want to stay cool. Checking your AC units is very important but also making sure your electrical system is protected is another part of the puzzle. Here are some tips to make sure you stay cool without tripping your breaker.

-Use Surge Protectors as your safeguarding device which protects your phone (when on the charger), laptops, fans, and other electronics from dangerous voltage spikes and diverts that dangerous energy to the ground wire.

-Keep the electrical use to a minimum. Keep lights off, the T.V.(s) to also minimal usage, and unplug unused devices.

Heat storms are unpredictable and can cause surges or outages whether you are taking precautions, but utilizing these steps could further protect your home if one occurs.

It is hot this summer and though you may have found a place or places to keep cool, your home may be suffering.
Here are a few tips before you need to call us.
1. Use power cords that you can turn on and off. This protects your outlets from overheating or tripping the breaker.
2. Before you leave your home for the day or for vacation, check the cords in your home. Any cords that have frayed wiring or exposing wires need to be replaced.
3. Check the outside boxes as well. Any outside outlets or even your panel can be exposed to the heat or can be frayed. If these get too hot or by chance gets water splashed onto them and is not installed properly, it can cause an electrical fire. Outside outlets should be a GCFI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) which is designed to prevent electrocution by shutting off the power within moments of a dangerous imbalance electrical current is detected. Usually, water is the one detected.

Just wrapped up a project for a customer where we cleaned up their panel, replaced the breakers, R&R’d some outlets, and updated the bathroom light fixtures. For this job, we’ve got to give a big shout-out to Duane M. Tyson with Divine Construction for teaming up with us to make these bathrooms look, well, divine! The floors turned out AMAZING, and the new vanity is pure chef’s kiss. Thanks for your hard work in pulling together the final touches.
