Scott Coatings

Scott Coatings We are a creative group of people intent on bringing a fresh perspective to construction. Once having five employees, we now have many times that number.

Originating in a garage in 2003, Scott Coatings has grown to become one of the preeminent commercial painting contractors in the Seattle area. And once having focused only on architectural paintings, we now tackle everything from fabric panels to FRP to wall covering and beyond. If you have an architectural product for walls, chances are we can install it. How have we gotten here? We did so by con

tinuously providing an opportunity for individuality to color our team and drive innovation. And we don’t plan on stopping.

Data center floors are built to look clean, but aesthetics have nothing to do with it.

The real concern in a data center is particulate control, keeping dust and debris out of environments where servers are running around the clock.

Even small amounts of airborne particles can settle into equipment and cause failure.

And that downtime can cost far more than the coating itself, depending on the facility.

That's why ESD (electrostatic dissipative) coatings are specified for these projects.

They're designed to reduce static charge on the floor surface, which helps prevent particles from becoming airborne in the first place.

Low-particulate systems go a step further; the coating itself has to cure and off-gas, so contaminants aren’t introduced into the space.

That means product selection, application method, and sequencing are all discussed before the project starts, not during.

A standard commercial coating that performs well in an office or warehouse isn't automatically the right call in a data center.

The spec exists for a reason, and understanding why matters as much as knowing how to apply it.

The Phil Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact was created to bring researchers, engineers, and scientists together in a facility designed to move discoveries from the lab into real-world applications faster.

As one of the most prominent research facilities in the Pacific Northwest, the project brought together a team tasked with creating an environment that could support advanced research for years to come.

Hoffman Construction served as the general contractor, and ZGF led the architectural design.

Scott Coatings performed prime painting of GWB walls throughout the facility using standard paint and epoxy systems.

While the research taking place inside the facility is what ultimately defines the project, every trade played a role in helping create the environment where that work happens.

We were proud to be part of a project that remains an important addition to the University of Oregon campus.

Aerospace maintenance facilities are one of the toughest environments a floor can face.

Fuel spills happen.

Hydraulic fluid finds its way onto the surface.

Heavy equipment stresses the floor every day.

And if the surface preparation is wrong, those conditions will expose it quickly.

That’s why profile specifications matter.

Concrete surface profile, or CSP, defines the texture of the concrete before a coating system is installed.

If the profile is too smooth, the coating cannot achieve the bond it was designed for.

If the profile is inconsistent, performance becomes inconsistent.

On the ZeroAvia project, Scott Coatings prepared 50,000 square feet of concrete to a CSP 3-4 profile before installing a chemical-resistant Neogard epoxy and urethane system.

The profile was matched to the coating manufacturer's requirements and the demands of the facility.

And the coating system was chosen because the floor would be exposed to chemicals, mechanical traffic, and the realities of an aerospace maintenance environment.

The surface preparation, profile specification, and coating system all work together because the environment demands it.

Most people don't talk about what makes someone stay at a company.

It’s usually not one big moment, but something that’s built over time.

Good work, good teammates, and knowing you're part of something worth building.

This month, a few members of the Scott Coatings team are celebrating work anniversaries.

Frank Ramos: 2 years

Juan Sandoval: 1 year

We're grateful they've chosen to keep building their careers with us.

Congratulations to you both on hitting a milestone with us this month!

Working on a building that the whole city recognizes is an honor.

Benaroya Hall is home to the Seattle Symphony and one of the most recognized buildings in downtown Seattle.

And it’s undergoing a $20 million renovation that Scott Coatings is proud to be a part of.

That means lobbies, entrances, exterior facades, a new lounge, a cafe, a community room, and the LED marquees along Third Avenue.

When a building this visible gets a refresh, the finished surfaces are the first thing guests see when they walk in and the last thing the city sees at night.

That puts the painting work at the center of both impressions.

So we’re grateful for the trust from Sellen Construction on this iconic project.

And for the architectural vision from Mithun that’s making it possible.

The office exists to serve the field.

Not the other way around.

If the people in the office aren't actively making life easier for the crew on site, the office isn't pulling its weight.

So that means the foreman has the information they need before they have to ask for it.

That means obstacles are cleared before the painters run into them.

That means the field team never has to stop what they're doing to work around something the office should have handled.

When the office starts expecting the field to adapt to it, the whole thing runs backwards.

The crew is on site doing the actual work.

And everything the office does needs to support them.

It’s how we build that field-first culture.

Today, we’re saying a fond farewell to Matt Scott as he moves on to his next chapter.

When Matt joined Scott Coatings, we were a three-person office and he made us four. In the years since, the company has grown more than sixfold, and he helped build the estimating team into one that competes for, and wins, the most demanding work in our market.

Matt helped drive some of the most significant projects delivered in Washington over the past decade, from Harrison Hospital with HSW to the Washington State Convention Center with the Clark/Lewis joint venture, among many others. Projects like these don’t happen without someone who can win the bid and support the team under pressure, and that’s exactly what Matt did, year after year.

Matt, thank you for everything you helped build here at Scott Coatings. You leave behind a strong team and a legacy that will keep showing up for years to come. You’ll be missed, and you won’t be forgotten. We wish you nothing but success in what comes next.

We recently wrapped up our work on the Elliott Bay Connections project in Seattle.

Sellen Construction led the effort, and we were part of the team they brought in to get it done.

This was an incredible project to be part of:

Sixteen acres of Seattle waterfront, stretching from Pier 62 to the Expedia campus, rebuilt into a public space the whole city can use.

The finished project includes expanded beaches, new pedestrian and bike connections, children's play areas, and more than 74,000 native plantings throughout the site.

It's part of a bigger push to connect 3.5 miles of Seattle's waterfront into one continuous community area.

Every surface we touched will be used by families on a Saturday afternoon, by commuters on a bike, and by kids who've never had a play area that close to the water.

July 4th is one of the only days the whole industry stops at the same time.

There's a lot to be proud of and still more to work toward.

We're grateful to be part of the work.

And even more grateful for the people who show up every day to do it.

So, to our team out there who spend their weeks high up on scaffolding, kick back and enjoy your family today.

Happy Independence Day from Scott Coatings!

It takes a special kind of person to stick around in our trade.

Commercial and industrial painting isn't finish work in a climate-controlled building.

It's spray applications in the middle of summer, surface prep on structures that haven't been touched in decades, and containment setups on sites that don't stop running just because you're there.

Most people try it and then move on.

This month, four people on our team proved they're not most people.

Angelo Chavez: 4 years.

Alexander Gould: 2 years.

Robert Woods: 2 years.

Jesus Orduno: 1 year.

Each of those years was earned in conditions that w**d people out fast.

They're still here, still showing up, still doing the work.

Jesus, Alexander, Robert, Angelo: we're glad you're part of this team.
