What was supposed to be a one-day flooring job turned into a lesson I won’t forget.
During the work, one of my guys accidentally damaged the porcelain sink. Accidents happen, but how you handle them matters. I took responsibility, replaced it at my expense, and reworked the plumbing so everything connected properly and fit behind the pedestal.
The job also grew to include a new toilet installation, two additional wax ring replacements, silicone touch-ups, painting doors and trim, and other paint touch-ups. Before leaving, I vacuumed and Swiffered the entire first floor. I wanted to leave a home I could feel proud of working in.
Honestly, the middle was hard. More time, more expenses, and moments when I wondered how I could keep giving so much and still run a sustainable business.
But I kept praying, kept working, and saw it through. 🙏
The job is finished, and I got paid. The money left over doesn’t reflect everything that went into it, but the experience will stay with me. I’m learning to take care of my customers while also setting clearer boundaries and valuing my time.
Even when I lose, I can still learn.
I’m grateful to God for giving me the strength to finish when I felt discouraged. Now I can look back and be proud that I took responsibility and followed through.
Like many small business owners, I’m navigating a challenging season. If you know someone in Maryland who needs flooring, remodeling, or home repairs, I’d appreciate a referral to Meier Construction LLC.
My commitment is to show up, communicate honestly, and stand behind my work. Thank you to everyone who helps keep this business moving. 🤝
