Carpenter ant workers are polymorphic--which means workers are different sizes. Entomologists refer to larger workers as "major" workers and the smaller workers as "minor" workers. The minor workers are not "baby" ants--they just have different tasks in the colony.

It is termite swarm season. They may look like winged ants but this time of year more than likely they are termites. Subterranean termites are the most destructive kind of termite. They can eat a lot of wood and they can cause a lot of expensive damage to a house! They can destroy building foundations, wooden support beams, plastic plumbing pipes, sub-flooring, insulation … even swimming pool liners!

What to do if you experince a termite swarm inside? First if possible close off the room. When the swarm is finished, vacuum them up. Save a few for the inspecter and if possible try to identify and mark the area they swarmed from.
