Board & Vellum chose Seattle’s historic Smith Tower as the home for its new 11,396 square foot workplace, occupying the entire 16th floor, and trusted Avara to bring the firm’s vision to life.

The buildout reorganized the existing suite into open studio space, private offices, conference rooms, phone booths, reception, an employee lounge, and a dedicated materials library. Original materials and architectural details were preserved or reused, while the new layout and building systems were carefully coordinated around the building’s existing structure.

The finished space is distinctly Board & Vellum: warm, refined, collaborative, and respectful of the building’s history. We’re proud to have helped bring their vision for their own workplace to life.

This is a fun one. The operable partition wall wrapped up today, and it’s easily one of the standout features in this office space. Open when the room needs to feel connected, closed when it needs a little more separation. Same space, a lot more range.

Installing beams like this is one thing. Getting them into a space like this is another.

This site is boxed in on three busy Seattle streets, with everything coming through a 3 ft by 7 ft door. Tight conditions like this take extra thought and coordination, but it’s coming together really well.

The Hub is a good example of what it looks like to adapt a space instead of replace it. Originally a hospital, this project focused on converting the second and third floors into rentable office and coworking spaces.

We built out new office suites, shared work areas, and support spaces, added restrooms on both floors, and integrated updated systems and finishes throughout, all within the existing structure.

It’s a practical, well-executed transformation that adds flexible workspace to Chelan and supports a range of local businesses.

This week’s company event took us to ROQ Climbing in Seattle for some friendly competition and team time outside the usual routine.

It’s always fun getting everyone together, but being able to do it in a space we helped build made it extra special. Moments like that are a good reminder of why we love what we do.

Progress at the Old Wenatchee Jail. Right now, crews are drilling for shoring piles on the South Building, with this blue drill rig creating 30-inch diameter holes roughly 35 feet deep into the ground.

It’s one of those early steps that sets everything else up, with structural steel coming up next 👀

This install took some serious coordination. Two large quartz slabs were templated and installed to fit precisely around angled seismic steel braces, which made for a heavy lift and tight working conditions with very little room for error. It’s one of those installs that looks seamless when it’s done, but took a lot of planning and ex*****on to get there.

Big credit to the team for seeing it through and getting it done right.

Old Wenatchee Jail. Work is underway, with a bigger push starting next week.

This is one of those projects that goes beyond the building itself. It’s about taking a piece of Wenatchee’s history and turning it into a place where people gather, eat, and spend time. More to come as this one ramps up!

For , reliable locker rooms were a priority. Our team completed upgraded showers and integrated saunas, coordinated the supporting systems, and built out spaces that hold up to high use while staying easy for members to move through, creating a reliable environment that keeps the pace of a training day moving smoothly.

Project Highlight: EMOP Amenity Space

Avara Construction partnered with Pietromonaco Jackson Properties to refresh the 1,304 SF Amenity Space at Everett Mall Office Park. In collaboration with Marshall Design + Management, our team reshaped the existing suite into a modern lounge and game room designed for everyday comfort and ease of use.

The renovation included new finishes, custom millwork, upgraded lighting, acoustic elements, and coordinated AV and electrical improvements. Much of the work involved tying new features into the building’s existing systems, ensuring the space performs well and is simple to maintain.

We are proud to support property owners in enhancing their buildings with thoughtful, high-quality spaces that elevate the tenant experience.
