Such a beautiful day to jackhammer some concrete and asphalt.

Today’s work hit a little closer to home. We had the opportunity to complete repairs at our home church, correcting a handicap ramp that had about a 1½” drop at the curb. That small difference was creating a real safety issue, making it difficult for individuals with disabilities to safely clear the edge.

We removed the problem areas and reworked the transition to create a smooth, even pitch from ramp to surface. No sudden drops, no hang-ups, just safe and reliable access the way it should be.

Nicole put out a request for help on the Nextdoor app and I commented on her post. She called me right away about a leak between her main water meter and the water pressure reducing valve.

After inspecting the line, I found a crack in the main connection point that had been overtightened during installation. The home was built by Burkentine Builders about four years ago! Nicole contacted them about the issue but they refused to address the problem.

She hired First Steps Home Services to replace the damaged section and install a new line so the repair was done properly.

When fittings are overtightened during installation, they can develop stress cracks over time which eventually leads to leaks like this.

At First Steps Home Services, we believe accountability matters.

Today I personally returned to a project after a few items were brought to my attention that did not meet the standard I expect from my company. As the owner, that responsibility falls on me.

I completed the remaining items myself to ensure the job was finished the way the customer wanted. I also deducted $100 from the final invoice as a gesture of good faith.

Let me be clear. This is not the standard we set for our work. Our expectation is that every project is completed properly the first time.

However, when something isn’t right, we stand behind what we do and make it right. No excuses.
