Storms have come through the Kansas City metro over the past couple of weeks. If hail hit your neighborhood, your roof may be damaged even if you can't see it from the ground.

We'll come out and inspect it for free, with no obligation. If there's no damage, we'll tell you that.

Watch out for door knockers after a storm. Some are out-of-town crews who won't be around when a warranty problem shows up, and some aren't legitimate contractors at all. Before you sign anything:

• Ask for a local address and references you can call
• Never pay the full amount up front
• Don't sign anything on the spot, even if they say the offer expires today
• Don't let anyone promise to cover or waive your insurance deductible
