Our Story
In the spring of 1974, Lind Excavating was awarded contracts for mainline and service utility installations for a seventy-five unit residential development project. In the fall of 1974, the company incorporated, becoming Lind-Exco, Inc.Doug Lind was elected president, L. Sterling Lind was elected vice president, and Greg Lind was elected secretary and treasurer. The same people with the exception of L. Sterling Lind, who has withdrawn from his elected position, currently hold these offices. From 1974 to 1980, the primary scope of the business involved installation of mainline municipal utilities (sewer, water, and storm sewer). In the spring of 1981, Lind-Exco, Inc. was awarded a contract to install a large residential sewer system in the Rapid City area. Until that time, the company base of operations was located in southeastern South Dakota. After completing the first project in the Rapid City area and developing relative comparisons of the future construction market in eastern and western South Dakota, the decision was made to relocate the base of operations to Rapid City, South Dakota.Since relocating to Rapid City, Lind-Exco, Inc. has expanded its scope of expertise to include site grading, site fill and site excavation, and in doing so has expanded its available market; making possible more complete site preparation bids on large-scale commercial development projects. This expansion of services has made its competitive bid packages more complete and overall project operations for the prime contractor more efficient, both time wise and cost wise. In 1988, with the advent of EPA-Mandated underground fuel storage tank removals, and clean up of associated contaminated areas, Lind-Exco, Inc. developed an environmental services division. This division specialized in underground storage tank removals, as well as development and installation of a variety of soils and groundwater remediation systems, using the latest technology available.
