Today, we remember the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the heroes who answered the call on September 11, 2001.
As members of the construction industry, we also pause to recognize the thousands of construction workers and tradespeople who made their way to Ground Zero in the days and months that followed.
Ironworkers, operating engineers, electricians, laborers, carpenters, pipefitters, truck drivers and countless other trades worked “The Pile” alongside firefighters, police officers and first responders cutting steel, moving debris, searching for survivors and helping recover those who were lost.
They brought the skills they used every day on jobsites and turned them into tools for rescue, recovery, and rebuilding. Many worked around the clock, putting their own safety aside to help complete strangers.
It remains one of the most powerful examples of what the trades represent: strength, sacrifice, brotherhood and showing up when you are needed most.
25 years later, we remember them all.
The lives lost.
