We’re working closely with a builder to help a veteran’s family transform their home with an addition designed to be fully ADA-compliant, function seamlessly, and respect the simplicity and character of the original mid-century structure. We couldn’t be more excited to be part of a project with such a meaningful purpose.

As always, we start with broad strokes. This approach allows us to work efficiently, explore different ideas, and iterate quickly to test multiple solutions. Once we identify the direction that best serves the project, we develop schematic floor plans and massing studies to evaluate scale, the relationship to the site, and the overall feel of the addition.

Stay tuned for more updates on this one. It’s going to be special.

We’re working on a renovation and expansion for a growing family in a beautiful, tree-lined neighborhood in Hillsborough, NC.

The goal is to increase the livable space while bringing more natural light and a stronger connection to nature. Our design introduces an interior courtyard, transforming the garden into a focal point framed by corridors and filled with curated vegetation.

To complement the original house, we introduced simple, contemporary forms that contrast with the existing gabled roofs. Rather than compete with the character of the original structure, the new addition creates a quiet juxtaposition—balancing simplicity, visual interest, and respect for the home’s history.

A new layer in the story of this home.

Because a clear scope gives your project direction from beginning to end. It allows your architect to better understand what you need, develop the right strategy, and focus on designing rather than constantly redefining the project along the way.

Ultimately, an organized plan leads to a strategy that aligns with the objectives established from the start.

For this project, we’re taking a step back to understand what is possible—regulatory, functional, and budgetary—and to clearly define what the client wants to design so we can help move the project forward with confidence.

This is called Pre-Design, and it’s an important part of the process when the scope needs to be clarified before design begins.

The project is a 1960s home where the owner wants to expand the social areas, correct several previous DIY modifications, and create better distribution and flow throughout the house—all while taking advantage of the incredible golf course views and natural light.

Good design starts with understanding what you’re trying to achieve.

Ladies and Gentlemen, we are very excited to show you this project coming together. We have taken some videos from the sky to look at the progress for our classroom expansion. Currently, we are about to dry the space in the next couple of days. We could not be happier for our client .montessori ; we cannot wait to see the kids and teachers learn, explore, and connect to nature. Thank you, Clear Construction, for all your efforts and attention to detail.

Another prototype drop for our Modern Escape Collection.

Contour is our Number Six retreat house.

When you design without a specific site or program, you have to establish your own set of rules. At Habanero, we typically design within real-world parameters, specific sites, clients, budgets, and needs. But for this series of exercises, we look for common denominators and create an “avatar” for each project: an imagined client and lifestyle that the architecture is designed to shelter.

Contour is designed for a couple who enjoys weekend getaways, quiet moments, and being immersed in nature.

An expansive living, kitchen, and dining space opens toward sweeping mountain views, while the bedroom is carefully positioned to frame more intimate, directional views. The exterior is wrapped in zinc-coated metal panels, creating a simple, durable material palette that complements the landscape.

The house follows the bent contour of a hill, allowing the architecture to become part of the terrain. Its angled geometry helps organize the interior spaces while strategically directing views toward the surrounding mountains.

This is architecture as an exploration; an opportunity to imagine how a retreat can respond to the landscape, the views, and the way we want to experience nature.

We hope you enjoy Contour. Interested in purchasing this design? Reach out (DM us) to learn more about this prototype, currently under development.

Beautiful rainy afternoon at Basiq Blaq. As an architect that had the opportunity to design and build his own home, I feel lucky.
