Happy new year friends! We didn’t build this bridge. It bridges a stream on a beautiful mountain trail near Cleveland SC. Bridges allow us to cross difficult or hazardous terrain. In 2020 we crossed over some of the most difficult terrain many of us have ever witnessed. As we crossed, many of us have lost loved ones and those we feel most connected to. Many of us have crossed to find new meaning in life. And many have crossed feeling there is still more bridge to cross ahead.
With the holidays behind us as we get ready to launch back into our “normal” worlds, I wanted to post a sentiment.
We often make new year’s resolutions that are material in nature... lose weight, save money, buy a house, etc. A resolution is essentially a goal or promise to do something to make life better in the year ahead. Perhaps this year we can resolve to make life better by having compassion, patience, empathy, and respect for those that are crossing that bridge ahead of us or behind us. We may not know where they’re coming from, what they’re carrying, or what they are expecting to find on the other side. What we can be sure of is how we treat one another. We can be conscious and aware of our feelings for our fellow beings. A feeling of kindness to love, encourage, uplift, and support others will always make life better for everyone. Just one positive connection, no matter how seemingly insignificant, will likely spread to someone else. The more that kindness and support spreads, the stronger and safer the bridge gets for everyone.
This year, Let’s resolve to cross our bridges together.
