North Carolina Downtown Development Association (NCDDA) had its annual Large Cities Conference, where David Maurer, who serves as a Board Member, hosted a panel discussion with James Goodnight and Brian Wallace. The panel discussed multiple downtown properties - their history, restoration, and their contribution to downtown Wilmington. Attendees then toured the Seabird Restaurant building, HQ for Untappd, and three other buildings currently under renovation - while learning about Historic Tax Credits and the value these buildings bring to the city.

Our design team partnered with renowned chef Scott Crawford to create Crawford Brothers Steakhouse in Fenton. The final result is a space that feels both familiar and elevated. Dark materials set the tone for a traditional moody steakhouse, while design details communicate a modern twist. Selections in material, texture, pattern, color, and composition reinforce a sense of luxury, while the layout, flow, and sightlines guide the visitor experience, creating an environment that feels both welcoming and refined.

An open exhibition kitchen brings energy to the dining room, intimate seating creates moments for conversation, and a sculptural oval bar anchors the space as guests arrive.

From finishes to the final bite, we worked to create a restaurant where timeless materials and thoughtful design elevate every visit.

A 1970s facade once hid the true character of this Downtown Wilson building and kept it from contributing status within the Historic District. During renovation, we removed the false front and found the original masonry facade and large sash windows intact and ready for restoration, confirming it as a contributing structure.

Once home to Wells Grocery Company, G.S. Tucker & Co. Furniture Store, and later known as the Kuntaw Building, it has now been thoughtfully restored for a new generation. Historic details and exposed brick pair with updated infrastructure to create commercial space at street level and residential apartments above.

Meet Liza! When she’s not at the office, you’ll find her outdoors, enjoying a new book or off on an adventure with her husband. As our Business Manager, she keeps a lot of plates spinning—from project invoicing and business operations to planning team outings and embracing her unofficial role as office mom. Historic character + downtown living + local business.

Welcome to the middle building in a line of three historic preservation projects in downtown Wilson, NC. Once known as the Hackney Building, it now houses the offices of MidSouth Roofing, with new residential units on the floor above. A true mixed-use rehab, this building brings business and residential to downtown's Goldsboro Street.

Sunflower's Cafe at the Rockway building brings new life to a familiar name for many in Raleigh. Once a staple at Seaboard Station, the restaurant returns under the direction of the original owner’s son.

Designed as an easygoing, all-day destination, the space shifts from daytime café to relaxed evening hangout. Wood elements—many crafted by the owner—add a personal, hand-built character throughout. The layout, lighting, and material selection create a layered atmosphere that supports both the energy of a busy morning and the slower pace of an evening spent lingering.

Can you spot the stained-glass art that was brought over from the original location?

Inside Providence Bank the design emphasizes openness, natural light, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. A custom wood slat front desk anchors the reception area, complemented by lounge seating and a palette of soft, neutral finishes. Outside, a series of original arches are preserved and celebrated, carrying forward a defining rhythm that connects the interior and exterior.
