Cooper Tacia General Contractors

Cooper Tacia General Contractors Committed to providing quality in the form of effective project management and construction excellence

Our company is the product of a partnership formed between two high school students, John Cooper and Chris Tacia, in 1996. The two began a business splitting firewood and selling it by the truckload to local folks around Sanford, NC. Proceeds from selling firewood became the seed money for a small development in western Harnett County,

Our first construction projects took place in 2003. They wer

e mostly small residential renovations like bathroom and kitchen remodels, along with the construction of a single home that we built speculatively. Over the years many opportunities have presented themselves and we have steadily grown our client and revenue base. This year we will complete projects throughout the southeast United States ranging from large-scale manufacturing, office buildings, government and education facilities, restaurant & retail spaces, apartment complexes and water and wastewater treatment plant upgrades.

Labor Day is a reminder of what it takes to build something that lasts: skilled hands, steady effort, and a team willing to do the hard work.

Cooper Tacia thanks its crews and everyone across the industry who makes that possible.

Cooper Tacia has been awarded construction of the Shipwatch Square Transit and Workforce Development Center in North Charleston, South Carolina, a new hub for the Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority (CARTA).

The facility will support up to 10 buses at a time, with indoor and outdoor seating for riders, a community meeting space, and offices. It will also house SC Works, bringing job seeker services and workforce training on site alongside the transit hub. The facility will connect directly to the future Lowcountry Rapid Transit line, creating a seamless link between CARTA and the region's growing transit network.

Cooper Tacia is glad to support Ride CARTA and the North Charleston community on a project built to move people and connect services in one place.

TEDxRaleigh has officially released a very personal talk from our Founder and CEO, John Cooper: The Kindness We Pass On.

John shares the story of his grandmother, Mozelle, the kindness and sense of safety she gave him during some of the hardest years of his childhood, and how her example continues to shape the person and leader he is still working every day to become.

Her pain was part of her story, but it wasn't the inheritance she left him.
In the talk, John reflects on the lifelong process of healing, the things we inherit from our past, and the choices we make about what we carry forward and what we pass on to others. We are incredibly proud of him.

“What will continue through you, and what will end with you?”

This summer, Myan Patel and Carter Gamet went beyond the classroom; gaining real-world experience, taking on new challenges, and learning what it means to contribute as part of a team.

As their internships come to a close, we’re proud of the growth they’ve shown and grateful for everything they brought to Cooper Tacia. We can’t wait to see what they build next!

This past Saturday, TEDxRaleigh brought together an incredible lineup of speakers and ideas, and we were proud to have our CEO, John Cooper, among them.

John's talk, “The Kindness We Pass On”, was part of this year's theme, Beyond the Blueprint, exploring what it means to forge your own path rather than follow the expected one.

Thank you to TEDxRaleigh for the invitation, to their incredible team for making it all possible, to the friends who came out to support, and to the amazing audience who made the experience even more special.

This Saturday, TEDxRaleigh returns for another year of Ideas Worth Spreading, and our CEO, John Cooper has been invited to take the stage!

This year’s theme, “Beyond the Blueprint,” challenges the idea that there is a single path to success, identity, or fulfillment. In a world that often encourages us to follow a predefined plan, this year’s speakers invite us to think differently—to question the script, embrace uncertainty, and create our own way forward.

We’re excited to see John share his story alongside an incredible group of speakers from our community.

Swipe through for the details, and come out to support our local TEDx chapter. You won’t want to miss it!

Progress continues at the Bobby N. Setzer Fish Hatchery near Pisgah National Forest, where crews are setting a new wet well as part of the site's infrastructure work.

It's not the most visible part of a project like this, but it's some of the most critical, and it's a good reminder of how much work happens below the surface before a project ever takes shape above it.
