We recently completed this thoughtfully designed rear addition, expanding the home while preserving its original character and outdoor space. From the beginning, the homeowners came to the table with a clear vision, full architectural plans, and an experienced designer, which allowed the process to move efficiently. Rather than starting from scratch, our team focused on refining details, engineering the structure, and coordinating the build to ensure a smooth transition from design to construction.

The scope of work was concentrated almost entirely at the rear of the home, with minimal impact to the existing interior. The addition included a new master suite and laundry area, connected to the original house by a widened hallway that felt intentional and cohesive rather than like a simple pass-through. Thoughtful interior adjustments to the existing sitting room helped tie the old and new spaces together, creating a natural flow throughout the home.

Storage played a major role in the design of the new master suite. Instead of traditional framed closets, the space was built with full-height, floor-to-ceiling custom cabinetry featuring integrated interior lighting. This approach created clean, accessible, and highly functional storage while elevating the overall aesthetic. Every element was designed to eliminate dark or wasted space and to support efficient, everyday use.

From a construction standpoint, access and logistics required careful planning. While the site itself was manageable, reaching the rear of the property required creative coordination. Our team carefully planned material deliveries, subcontractor access, and crew movement to keep the project running smoothly. Drainage was another critical consideration. The addition intersected natural water flow on the property, so grading, drainage paths, and sleeved footings were all thoughtfully planned before foundations were poured, ensuring long-term performance and preventing future issues.

Additional coordination was required to integrate an existing generator into the new footprint. Plans were adjusted as needed to meet code requirements while maintaining accessibility and improving functionality around the addition. This collaborative approach allowed form and function to work together without compromising the overall design intent.

The project was led by Harry Marks and expertly executed by Project Manager David Drenzek, who did a brilliant job making the homeowners happy through excellent communication, seamless coordination of trades, and proactive problem-solving as challenges arose. His attention to detail and commitment to maintaining an unmatched level of quality were evident throughout the build and played a key role in the project’s success.

The project was supported by a strong team of trade partners, including Cardinal Cabinets for the custom cabinetry and a dedicated flooring team that delivered high-quality results. Designer Anna Applegate was integral from the start, skillfully balancing client goals with construction realities and helping guide decisions that elevated the finished space.

The completed addition feels purposeful, seamless, and fully integrated into the existing home. It reflects what’s possible when early collaboration, thoughtful design, and intentional construction planning come together to create a space that enhances how the homeowners live every day.

We’re thrilled to share that one of our latest renovations — a full kitchen, pantry, dining room, powder room, living room, and master bathroom remodel — was recently featured in Walter Magazine. It was a beautiful collaboration from start to finish: from the homeowner’s vision, to the refined styling of visionary interior-design firm , culminating in the skilled craftsmanship of our team at Sigmon Construction.

Under the leadership of John Devlin — Head of our Streamlined Construction division — we brought the spaces to life through thoughtful details and timeless finishes. Highlights include a custom kitchen with inset doors, bead molding, and a white-oak veneered island; slab-style veneer doors with turned, round legs inlaid into the countertop; and a custom stain mix, sprayed to perfection by our finishers. The kitchen features a 60″ built-in refrigerator with decorative panels, clever pot-and-pan pull-outs, and discreet storage behind touch-latch panels — all without visible hardware. The island itself boasts a built-in paper-towel holder and hidden storage, marrying form and function with subtle elegance. The team at did a phenomenal job.

We’re proud to share additional photos so you can appreciate the interplay of materials, textures, and thoughtful design. We look forward to sharing the photos soon of the basement renovation — featuring a truly one-of-a-kind custom bar.

Our team recently completed a beautiful new covered porch and deck for a long-time customer and family friend, and it’s quickly become one of our favorite outdoor spaces. The 23’x20’ porch features an 18’ vaulted tongue-and-groove stained ceiling with 8x8 decorative beams, along with a 7’ stone wood-burning fireplace that adds a warm, inviting focal point to the space.

Fiberon “Warm Sienna” decking pairs with Cityside black aluminum railing for a clean, balanced look, and we added a matching drink rail on the porch for extra functionality. The space is equipped with TimberTech low-voltage lighting, a 7’ Big Ass Fan, color-changing Govee can lights, and a Sonos in-ceiling sound system—all easy to control and built for everyday convenience.

The custom 8’ outdoor kitchen from Originals Grills of Durham includes a 32” Delta Heat grill, hot/cold water sink, LED task lighting, a pull-out trash setup, and Fiberon finishes that tie everything together.

We’re looking forward to enjoying a few away games over at the homeowner’s house soon!

Our team was proud once again to sponsor and attend the Sporting Clays Classic at Rose Hill, standing in support of the Occoneechee Council and the Boy Scouts of America. This event is one we look forward to each year, as it supports the Scouts’ mission of building character, leadership, and responsibility in our youth.

It was a fine day of fellowship and friendly competition.

This master bathroom renovation began with a full gut and a vision for serenity. The original space featured an oversized jetted tub and a small enclosed shower—our clients dreamed of something more open, elegant, and timeless.
Our team transformed the layout with a zero-entry shower, creating a seamless transition from the main bath into the shower area. Because the home sits on a truss system, the framing required thoughtful craftsmanship and creative engineering. The crew lowered the subfloor and used precision framing techniques to achieve the flush, curbless design—an understated luxury that makes the space both beautiful and accessible.
The result: a spa-like retreat anchored by beautiful tilework, a freestanding soaking tub, and custom his-and-hers vanities built by Cardinal Cabinetworks. Each element complements the next, from the vertically set tile with its quiet movement to the layered lighting and warm finishes chosen by the incredibly gifted interior designer Candace Lewis.
This project was a true collaboration. Our talented project managers Matt Tompkins and Tyler Culbertson, alongside our head of Streamlined Construction John Devlin, guided every detail with care and precision.
A heartfelt thank you to our wonderful clients for their partnership and friendship throughout this detailed process. The finished space is a reflection of that shared vision—calm, refined, and effortlessly welcoming.

Sigmon Construction is pleased to announce the addition of John Devlin as Director of Streamlined Construction. John comes to Sigmon Construction from Blue Ribbon Residential Construction. John has over 25 years of experience in residential remodeling. In his new role at Sigmon Construction, John will spearhead design-build renovations that can be streamlined, typically without involving an architect, structural engineer, or plot plan. These include, but are not limited to, kitchen renovations, bathroom renovations, renovations of unfinished spaces, handyman and service projects.

Remodeling is in John’s DNA; he grew up around the construction industry starting as a teenager helping his mother who was a builder in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Over this time, John has become skilled in CAD, project design, budgeting and selections. John is also an expert in cabinetry. John is CAPS certified and is thus very experienced in aging-in-place remodeling. Over the last 8 years John has won 10 Remodeling Star Awards or People's Choice Awards.

While growing up in Louisville, Kentucky, John spent every summer vacation as a youth at Wrightsville Beach. After spending some time in the Midwest, John seized an opportunity to get closer to his beloved beach and moved to Raleigh in 2003. He has been married for 31 years and has been blessed with five wonderful children through birth and adoption.

John loves the creative process that stems from helping customers design their dream projects. “It gives me immense pride to work with our excellent team at Sigmon to turn the ideas into reality” says John. Outside of the office you’ll find John fishing, enjoying basketball and hanging out with the family. John can be reached at [email protected] or through our Raleigh office at (919) 831-0539.
