3LR Design’s in his natural habitat!

Did you know that when Chris isn’t designing Audio and Video systems, he can be found travelling around the U.S., filming some amazing projects? At 3LR Design, we are all practitioners of our craft. We believe that understanding client needs and developing proper design can only be achieved if the designer has extensive practical experience in their discipline. We can talk the talk, but we also walk the walk.

3LR Design’s Chris Dowell analyzes real time room acoustics data in collaboration with the ED+A team, in preparation for a new Performing Arts Center renovation project in South Florida.

The device we affectionately call “The Peacock” is the 01db Sound Inspector, which utilises an array of 112 integrated microphones and a high-definition digital camera, allowing us to collect extremely accurate data on the acoustic properties of any room.

The information we gather with this (and other devices) informs our design decisions for both static and adjustable acoustic treatments, modifications in the room shaping throughout the renovation process, as well as in the design of live-event performance audio and public address systems.

Every tool we use, and each decision we make, effects patron experience and the operational functionality of the venue. We never simply “guess.” Each choice is derived from meeting at the crossroads of data, experience, and creativity.

Finland / USA / UK - It is with great pleasure that 3LR Design, an industry leader in lighting and controls systems design, consulting, and experiential services, announces that renowned architectural lighting and controls designer, Karoliina Helin has joined its international team.

As a Consultant based in Finland, Karoliina will allow 3LR to develop, design and support even more customers and clients in the European Union, the UK, and beyond," says Josh Allen, Global Director of Design for 3LR and co-founder of 3LR Group. "We've had the opportunity to work with Karoliina on multiple projects to date, and her work has always been top-notch. Moving forward, it made perfect sense that she join the Group. Her skills in lighting layouts and presenting lighting data are second to none, and we are excited to have her on board."

Karoliina's experience ranges from commercial and private sector design, to heritage and entertainment venue lighting design and controls systems.
Karoliina holds a bachelor's degree in interior architecture from University of West England Bristol, and has long been dedicated to her work as a lighting designer, focusing primarily on architectural lighting in its many forms.

"Karoliina's work spans many of the sectors and genres we operate in," says Matt Lloyd, co-founder of the 3LR Group. "She brings to the team a wonderful mixture of design concepts, bespoke light fitting specifications, and lighting simulation modeling and analysis. She does incredible work with the creation of technical lighting design packages. She's such a good fit for the team and an amazing designer, and she will definitely be another key member of the Group."

Wow - what a week! We could not be more thrilled for the amazingly-talented Ziggy Jacobs to join the 3LR Design team in London!

With a wealth of experience in the lighting and controls industry, Ziggy brings a fresh and complementary perspective to 3LR Design. Her creative prowess of custom lighting fittings, new custom technologies, and collaborative “out of ordinary” projects, combined with her passion for creating sustainable, open-source, custom-built lighting and devices, promises to add new ways for 3LR to provide solutions to its clients.

“No challenge is too large for Ziggy,” says Josh Allen, Global Director of Design for 3LR. “Designer, trainer, programmer, lecturer – Ziggy does it all. Her extensive experience on a global scale, along with her keen eye for detail and unwavering commitment to excellence, make Ziggy a perfect fit for our team.

Given that her CV includes technical systems in hundreds of installations around the world, Ziggy is also uniquely positioned to provide unbiased advice and recommendations to 3LR clients and facilities when approaching new construction, renovations, and equipment upgrades.

Her credits include a broad range of work – programming West End productions, The British National Opera, The English National Ballet, BT Sport, Royal Albert Hall, Formula One racing, Theatre Royal Bath, Netherlands Opera, British Fashion Awards, Cairo Opera, lighting and programming for the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, and much more.

Wonderful to be back in Middleton, WI to see latest edition to “Town Square” inside the factory. Amazing completed work on the exterior of the “Firehouse” that will serve as a new training room. We can’t wait to see the interior when it is finished! Any guesses what the date and numbers represent? 🤫🤐😁
