That 'cobweb' wrapped around the branch? It's actually a fall webworm nest, and there's nothing to worry about. These caterpillars spend a few weeks munching leaves before moving on, and your tree bounces right back good as new. Better yet, they're a snack for birds and other wildlife passing through.

She walks through the different fabric options available and explains why we reach for a mix of natural fibers and straw on our Piedmont Prairie projects. It's woven from plant fibers, holds seeds in place during rain, and eventually breaks down into the soil rather than sticking around in your yard for years.

Nora had the same double take you probably just did. Is that milkweed? Look closer: it's dogbane, milkweed's easy to miss look-alike here in the Piedmont.

Nora spotted a dogbane beetle doing exactly what its name promises, working through a few leaves. Dogbane beetles depend on this plant the same way monarchs depend on milkweed.
