Today, we recognize Juneteenth as a powerful reminder of resilience, strength, and freedom.

On June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, news of freedom finally reached the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas. Juneteenth marks the end of slavery in the United States, but it also reminds us that the fight for equity and equality continues.

Today, we honor the significance of Juneteenth and celebrate the diversity, strength, and contributions of the individuals, families, caregivers, and communities we serve. โค๏ธ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’š

What does the term "developmental disability" really mean?

For many families, a diagnosis can bring questions, uncertainty, and a lot of new information. But developmental disabilities are only one part of a person's story.

Every individual has unique strengths, goals, interests, and potential. Understanding developmental disabilities starts with looking beyond labels and focusing on the whole person.

In our latest blog, we explore:
โœ… What developmental disabilities are
โœ… How they may impact daily life

In loving memory of Sandy, who passed away in early March, we want to share a reflection on the profound impact of the bond shared between clients and caregivers at Amivie.

Sandy received services through our Wake Forest, North Carolina office, where caregivers Sharon and Tracy became so much more than care providersโ€”they became trusted companions and a source of comfort for both Sandy and her family.

When Sandy's brother, Michael, first reached out to Amivie for support, he found more than careโ€”he found a family.

Caregivers Sharon and Tracy truly defined what it means to go above and beyond, remaining faithfully by Sandy's side until the very end.

Michael shared these heartfelt words about the bond they built:

"Sharon is the most organized person I have ever met. She is proactive, and her experiences have helped me prepare for the unknowns associated with Sandy's transition."

"Tracy's bond with Sandy is so special, and when a caregiver makes visits on their personal time, it speaks volumes about their character."

Sharon and Tracy, we are incredibly proud of your unwavering devotion and the comfort you provided to Sandy and her family. You embody the heart of Amivie and what it means to be a Friend for Life. ๐Ÿ’™
