Some homes hold a family together across generations. This lake house has done exactly that for decades.

Inherited. Beloved. And quietly asking for someone to take care of it. We completely reimagined the exterior - new siding, new windows, new roof, huge new patio - while honoring everything that made this place home to them in the first place.

Sometimes the biggest design challenge isn’t something we create - it’s something we inherited. This wall was built 12” out of square over 40 years ago. Fast forward to today: we’re mid-construction & that decades old issue just became our problem to solve. The fix? Completely reworking the stairs to accommodate an error that’s older than any of us. This is the unglamorous side of renovation work - you have to design for what’s there, mistakes & all!

Today was a big one! 4 hours on-site with our Engineers & contractors, walking every inch of the building we have under contract. Structural, mechanical, electrical, all of it!! I got over 100 photos of the interior & NONE of the humans who were there with me. Typical Architect move! This is the part of the process that isn’t glamorous; I need to know the good, bad & ugly of what I’m getting ready to buy! There’s still more to do in our Due Diligence period & SO much to do before we can move in…

For nearly 20 years, Ink Works Studio has served the NRV. For the first 15 years, I worked from home, and over the last 5 years our staff has worked out of beautiful leased offices in Fairlawn. We're proud of what we have built here & prouder of how we show up for our clients day in and day out. Now, we're getting ready to do something we've never done before. May is National Home Improvement Month - and we can't let it end without sharing one of our favorite transformations!
Before? This kitchen was a dark, wood-paneled cave that wasn't living up to its potential.
After? Light! Bright & Organic, with gorgeous tiles, cabinet hardware, and counters that practically glow! This kitchen is finally the heart of this home!
THIS is why we do what we do! This isn't just a better kitchen, it has changed the way this family lives!
