"We’ve got a guy for that. Meet Tony"... We said that at least 10 times in two hours yesterday at the Build Expo USA in Charlotte. Nearly every builder we talked to had the same question: “How do we learn to build with SIPs?”

Tony is the SIP Master Builder with our sister company, Taylor Hollow Construction. When Bigfoot Builders in Boone, NC, took on their first SIP project (pictured here), he headed out to the jobsite and worked alongside their crew. He walked them through the installation and made sure everything was going where it should.

Walls were up in less than a day and a half. After Tony left, Bigfoot finished the roof panels on their own.

Here’s what Josh Green, Co-Owner of Bigfoot Builders, told us: “...it’s made the learning curve much easier for our team... In our eyes, at Bigfoot Builders, these panels from Acme are a no brainer.”

That’s what we mean when we say we don’t just drop off panels and wish you luck.

We’re at Booth #405 today until 3 PM, and we’ve got a few more people we’d love for you to meet.

Are SIPs worth it?

It’s one of the first questions homeowners and builders ask us. And while we could talk all day about the benefits of Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs), sometimes it’s better to just show you.

Our new project portfolio is live: Built With ACME Panel. Loved From the Inside Out.

From mountain cabins and custom homes to multifamily communities and commercial buildings, these are real projects built with ACME panels. You'll see how SIPs were used and what made each project a little different.

We love showing off the projects we get to be part of, and we've got plenty more to share. We'll keep adding new ones as they're completed, so check back often.

Charlotte, we’re coming your way.

ACME Panel will be at the Charlotte Build Expo USA October 13–14 at the Charlotte Convention Center. If you’re a builder, architect or construction professional who’s been curious about what Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) can do for home and building performance, come see us at Booth #405.

There are a lot of benefits to building with SIPs, from energy efficiency and comfort to faster installation and a tighter building envelope. We’d be happy to talk you through them. Better yet, bring a project you’re thinking about and let’s walk through it together.

→ October 13–14
→ Charlotte Convention Center, Hall C

→ Booth #405

Come say hello. We’d love to talk about what you’re building.

“We spend every weekend up here now. Even in a February cold snap, the kids are running around in socks. It just does not feel like a cabin that should be this comfortable.” - The Hollis Family, homeowners

That's the kind of home performance you can truly feel. See how this SIP-built Virginia cabin came together: https://ow.ly/V8y750ZUq5C

You build a house once. You heat it and cool it every single day after that. That’s exactly why we care about how homes are built.

Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) help keep the air you’re paying to heat and cool inside the house, where it belongs. That means less energy wasted trying to keep your home comfortable year after year.

We think about the other side of it, too. Our panels are made right here in Radford in a solar-powered facility, and we recycle our waste foam instead of sending it to the landfill.

Less energy to make it. Less energy to live in it. That just makes sense to us.

There’s more to the sustainability story behind SIPs. See how SIPs can reduce energy use and carbon here:

The star of this building is on the inside. Just look up.

This Virginia wedding venue pairs exposed timber framing and a distinctive gambrel roof with Structural Insulated Panel (SIP) walls and roof, bringing traditional architecture together with a high-performance building envelope.

And those SIPs had to fit that timber frame just right. Every panel was cut in our Radford facility to match the custom design before it ever reached the jobsite, including the panels that sit above the exposed timbers guests see from below.

Beautiful design by Engel Architects and beautiful work in the field by Quarry View Building Group. We’re proud ACME Panel was part of this one

SIPs go up fast. That’s one of the things builders notice first. And this photo is a pretty good example why: that’s an entire wall section, window openings and all, going up at once.

What builders also learn pretty quickly is that a smooth SIP install starts with a little planning. Here are three things we tell builders before their first project:

→ Plan your mechanicals early. Know where electrical, HVAC and plumbing need to go before the panels arrive.

→ Seal every joint. SIPs create a continuous insulated building envelope, and properly sealed connections are an important part of making that work.

→ Call before you cut. Our panels are engineered to spec. If something needs to change in the field, check with us first.

None of this is difficult. It’s just a little different if you’re used to stick framing. And if it’s your first SIP project, we’re here to help.

There are some things we’re probably never going to automate. Answering the phone is one of them.

We’re a family-owned SIP manufacturer in Radford, Virginia, and there are real people behind what we make. People cutting and fabricating panels in our facility. People answering the phone who know SIPs and, pretty quickly, will probably know your project too.

We show up on jobsites. We answer questions when your crew has them. And if something doesn’t go according to plan, we move quickly to help make it right.

We care about what we make, too. Every panel gets cut in our solar-powered facility here in Radford. Less energy spent making it, less energy needed to run the home once it's built. To us, that's just how it should work.

We may manufacture panels, but there are people on both sides of every order. We try not to forget that.

If you’ve got a project taking shape, we’d be glad to hear about it.

You probably don’t think much about what’s behind your drywall. Until the wind starts blowing in.

On a normal day, walls are just walls. But when severe weather moves in, how those walls were built suddenly matters a whole lot more.

Structural Insulated Panel (SIP) homes are built differently from the ground up. Instead of hundreds of individual framing pieces and connections, large, engineered panels come together into one strong, continuous wall system around the people inside.

No house is storm-proof. But there are different ways to build one, and some of those differences are worth understanding before the weather turns.
