The current Michelmann Steel Construction Company was founded in 1865 by Prussian immigrant J.H. The company produced boilers and tanks at the time. In July 1900 the company was incorporated as Michelmann Steel Construction Company, which reflected the increase emphasis on fabricated structural and miscellaneous steel. Michelmann's son-in-law William F. Gerdes joined the company and became Preside

nt in 1923. William's son, Clarence A. Gerdes, became President in 1952. Clarence's son, William F. Gerdes, became President in 1975. In 2006, a fifth generation member of the Michelmann family, William's daughter Laura Gerdes Ehrhart, took over as President of Michelmann Steel Construction Company.
