After using our mushroom bags to grow 4 to 5 pounds of mushrooms for our business, we then break the blocks up and feed it to our organic compost garden where the mycelium continues to eat organic material & receive water, until it eventually became soil we grew these tomatoes in! 🍅

BEAUTIFUL cluster of Golden Oysters near Mt. Sterling! 📍Conditions over the last week have really provided optimal growing Conditions for this species of mushrooms! 🍄

The TRUTH about this mushroom though is IT IS AN invasive species, taking food sources from native mushrooms, and taking the biodiversity of the forest with it. 🧫🌎

This mushroom IS not native to this area, and is actually from East Asia. It escaped an indoor mushroom farm in the late 20th century and has spread across North America since. 🌎

Potato Dextrose Agar, 🥔 also known as PDA Agar is a very important medium when growing fungi and bacteria in petri dishes! 🧫 We make our own in house and use it when we get new species of mushrooms that are in syringes. 💉

It is 4 simple ingredients of water, potato flakes, Agar Agar, and corn syrup! 🥔 We also add food dye to turn the Agar black, making it easier to see mycelium growth! 🎨

Check out our process! 🙌 This is also a great thing to make, leave out, and see what molds are inside your house and always makes for some interesting discoveries. 😆🤣
