From the Field: Songbird Apartments, Capitol Hill

There's a lot that goes into getting a project right before the first wire ever gets pulled. Here, journeymen Alex Rodriguez-Plaza and Austin Campos take time on-site at Songbird Apartments to review the post-tension deck plans — because on a mixed-use development like this, the details matter from day one.

Post-tension decks require careful coordination between trades, and our team comes prepared. That kind of pre-work is what keeps projects on schedule and protects the quality of the finished installation.

Songbird is shaping up to be a great addition to the Capitol Hill neighborhood, and we're proud to be part of the team bringing it to life.

Commercial. Industrial. Low Voltage. Residential. We do it all — and we do it right.

Investing in the Future of the Trades: Boone Electric at SkillsUSA Washington 2026

This spring, Boone Electric had the privilege of playing a meaningful role at the SkillsUSA Washington State Leadership & Skills Conference (SLSC), held April 16–18 at Clover Park Technical College in Lakewood. Our team didn't just show up to watch — we helped plan and judge the Electrical Construction competition, and it was an experience worth sharing.

Leading the charge for Boone Electric was instructor Dave Pinch along with journey-level electricians Dean Mensonides and Santiago Contreras who served as primary organizers, ensuring everything ran smoothly at the event. Aaron Webb, Jordan Eyelander and Matt Tyler also stepped up to assist on competition day, helping as judges.

The Electrical Construction Wiring competition challenges students to demonstrate real-world skills: reading drawings and spec sheets, bending conduit, installing wiring systems, and applying their knowledge of the National Electrical Code. These aren't abstract exercises — they're the same fundamentals our own PEAC (Performance Electrical Apprenticeship Committee) apprentices work with every day. Seeing students tackle them with such enthusiasm and professionalism was a reminder of why events like this matter.

SkillsUSA exists to bridge the gap between the classroom and the jobsite, and we're proud to be part of that mission. The students competing at SLSC aren't just future workers — they're future apprentices, future journeymen, and future leaders in the trades. Getting to support that journey, even in a small way, is something we don't take lightly.

A big thank you to SkillsUSA Washington for organizing such an incredible event, to Clover Park Technical College for hosting, and to Dean, Santiago, Dave, Aaron, Jordan, and Matt for representing Boone Electric with the kind of dedication and enthusiasm that defines our team.

Last week, our team attended MODEX 2026 in Atlanta, one of the largest supply chain and automation events in North America, hosted by MHI.

This isn’t a concept-driven conference—it’s where companies evaluate real systems they’re actively planning to install. For us, the focus is simple: what’s changing, and what does that mean for the electrical and low-voltage infrastructure behind it?

Automation is scaling quickly: Robotics, conveyors, and autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) are no longer niche. Systems are being deployed faster, and facilities are being designed around them from the start.

AI is moving into operations: We saw more systems using real-time data to drive decisions on picking, routing, and throughput—not just reporting performance after the fact.

Integration is the real challenge: Most facilities aren’t struggling to find technology—they’re struggling to connect it. Equipment, controls, and software all need to work together, which increases the complexity of installation.

The biggest takeaway: infrastructure is no longer a back-end consideration.
*Power requirements are higher and more distributed
*Controls and low-voltage systems are more integrated
*Early coordination is critical to avoid costly rework
*Facilities that plan for automation upfront are significantly more efficient to build than those trying to retrofit later.

We’re focused on bringing back what’s practical:
*Supporting automation with scalable power and controls
*Coordinating early with owners, OEMs, and integrators
*Designing systems that can adapt as facilities evolve

Bottom Line: Automation is no longer a future-state investment—it’s happening now. The difference between a smooth project and a costly one often comes down to how early the electrical and infrastructure planning starts.

If you’re considering upgrades or new construction, it’s worth having that conversation early.

Celebrating 25 Years with Chris Bender

This year marks an incredible milestone: Chris Bender’s 25-year anniversary with Boone Electric.

For a quarter century, Chris has been a steady force in our Commercial department, serving as a superintendent who knows how to run the show—especially on our Seattle-area projects. His deep expertise, leadership, and high standards keep complex jobs moving and crews aligned, day in and day out.

But Chris’s impact goes well beyond the jobsite. He’s also the mastermind behind some of our most memorable holiday and team events, bringing the same planning, creativity, and follow-through to company culture that he brings to his projects.

Reaching 25 years in this industry is no small accomplishment. We’re grateful for Chris’s dedication, leadership, and the many ways he continues to shape Boone Electric.

Congratulations on 25 years, Chris—and thank you for everything you do.

We wrapped up summer with a relaxed September BBQ at the Puyallup shop, where the Residential and Accounting teams teamed up to serve classic burgers, hot dogs, and plenty of delicious sides. Families joined in the fun, making it a great afternoon to connect beyond the workday.

Between friendly rounds of co****le and catching up over food, the evening was all about enjoying each other’s company and celebrating the hard work our teams have put in. A big thank-you to everyone who helped make the event a success!
