Project update of a kitchen and bathroom addition we’re doing on a house that we first started 20 years ago. We are reusing the original windows that we restored back then. Exterior is almost done.

Our work with the The City of Newport, RI 🍍 and Newport Restoration Foundation helped identify how to treat windows, as well as any surface that contains lead paint. Finished these awesome doors, hand carved by a local artist some time ago. The finish was old and oxidizing so we cleaned them with an enzymatic cleaner then applied 6 coats of SutherlandWelles Exterior polymerized tung oil.

This was a great build by the crew. Little unexpected. We were hoping to save the original door, but we were able to reproduce it in Spanish cedar, stained it and it really really really came out gorgeous. Plus it’s also more energy efficient and it’s gonna last another hundred years.

15 year home project. I did about 80% of all of the stripping, prep and painting. The shop restored most of the windows, and did the colored glass ones. Good thing the first stuff I stripped looks great, don’t have to start again!
