Is the homestead at a pivoting point? Yes. There are so many reasons for the change. Originally I had decided to let go of the Ayam Cemani flock, the Zombie breeding program after my Cemani rooster passed away and the white leghorns to just kinda of keep it at my egg layer coop, my Blue Lace Red Wyandottes and the quail along with the rabbits. The peacocks too. However, I got sick with a UTI that I mistook for perimenopause symptoms. That led to damage to my kidneys. It got me thinking that I need to downsize a lot more just to allow myself more time to take care of myself. So the peacocks were old too. Today I will be actively moving holding pens and separating out the birds in the egg layer coop and posting them by breed the best I can. Reposting the rabbits now that we have them situated to do so better. The pens will come down. The big coop will be completely cleaned out today too. It's definitely time to clean it out. Tomorrow I'll clean the smaller coops. I need to get a dumpster rented to start tossing out old broken pens but I'm going to wait until I have them down to do that. We've suddenly been overrun by mice too. Upstairs and downstairs so that has to be addressed as well. As the homestead pivots to just having one flock of chickens and the quail, it saddens me but at the same time it's going to allow more room for growth. Jake has decided which male rabbit he wants to keep for his breeding program that will start back in the spring with 2 new Does. Things will look different and smaller for a little while but that's ok. More raised beds will go in and more garden plants. Change isn't a bad thing even when it's sad for a moment.
