Second Intention Farm We are a small organic family farm in rural Middle Tennessee where we grow non-GMO corn and native fruits. We're also the future home of Engineered Spirits.

Decades ago, after Papa and his sons - Dad and our uncles - built this farmhouse, Papa went about constructing cabinets, shelves and this old handcrafted bathroom vanity, which is still in the same place it has been, all these years. Today our mission is to get it out, so we can begin renovating this bathroom. But can we get it out intact?

Have you heard the term oligolege? We hadn't either until we started researching the insects that pollinate Venus' Looking Glass flowers. An oligolege is a bee that only collects pollen from a very narrow range of plants. Native Plasterer bees only visit six species found within this genus; luckily, we have two of them .

To do this properly is going to require an extra step later on, but since we plan to replace this door anyway, that's not such a big deal. For the time being, we have what we need, a way to secure the farmhouse when we're not there.

Years ago, Granny planted Wisteria near the Chestnut trees that lined her garden . A lot of our native are somehow easy to overlook. When hundreds of Texas Toadflax flowers appeared in the northern end of our main cornfield, we certainly noticed them. But, recently we realized we also have their cousin, Blue Toadflax, blooming in the yard at Granny and Papa’s house!

Papa's workshop contained a wealth of antique and vintage tractor parts. While pulling everything out for the salvage project, we quickly developed a sharp eye for John Deere’s iconic green paint and set those items aside. We don’t have a need for them ourselves , but surely someone else out there will want to put them back to use.

Granny always loved her irises and years later we still find them scattered around the farm. Because we love them too, we’ve also planted irises of our own, both old and new varieties, . They are one of our state flowers, after all, and we know that Granny would be pleased.
