Job Summary
The Trucking Operation Manager is responsible for the overall management and performance of the company’s trucking operations. This position will lead the dispatch team, coordinate drivers and equipment, oversee daily transportation activities, and work closely with company management, customers, and the maintenance department to ensure safe, efficient trucking operations.
The successful candidate will have strong leadership and organizational skills, practical knowledge of heavy-haul and trucking operations, and the ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment. This position requires someone who can effectively balance customer requirements, driver and equipment availability, safety, regulatory compliance, and company profitability.
Responsibilities
Develop and execute transportation strategies that align with company goals, focusing on service quality, and safety compliance.
Direct and oversee the daily activities of the dispatch department which assign a wide variety of tractors/trailers (combination lowboys, lowboys, container chassis, vans, transfer, dump trucks, belly/end/side dumps, vac & water trucks, and other specialized equipment). Assign drivers based on project requirements, equipment availability, driver qualifications, and operational priorities.
Provide leadership and direction to dispatch personnel and establish clear priorities and expectations.
Coordinate oversize and overweight transportation operations, including trip permits, routing, escorts, and other requirements.
Maintain a working knowledge of Oregon and interstate heavy-haul requirements. Ensure loads are properly planned and transported in accordance with permit requirements and applicable regulations.
Monitor compliance with Hours of Service, ELD requirements, vehicle inspections, load securement, permits, and other applicable regulations.
Participate in driver training, safety meetings, accident/incident reviews, and corrective actions as needed.
Maintain strong relationships with existing customers and assist in developing new customer relationships.
Skills
3–5 years of heavy-haul, lowboy, trucking dispatch, transportation, or closely related experience.
Strong working knowledge of FMCSA, DOT, and applicable state trucking regulations.
Strong leadership skills with supervising experience in a team management role.
Ability to lead drivers and dispatch personnel and hold employees accountable..
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, spreadsheets, fleet-management software, GPS/telematics, ELD systems, and other transportation technology.
Strong customer-service skills and professional communication.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on trucking professional and leader, and will be expected to lead the operation, not simply coordinate it.
Pay: $75,525.00 - $105,525.00 per year
