This is what a season with Taylor's Way looks like.

The lawn on the left is what most homeowners are living with: thin turf, bare spots, patches of w**ds that came back no matter what came out of the bag. These five trees were pruned to grow up, not out and survive any storms headed this way. 🌳

A young tree does not know which of its branches have a future. It feeds all of them. Every low limb takes water, sugar, and energy that could be going into the trunk and the canopy above it.

So we take the low ones off. Not just for looks. Because the tree stops spending on branches it does not need and starts putting that energy where it will still matter in thirty years.
Each of these wanted something different.

The silver maple needed its structure trained early or it splits in storms. The white pine cannot be cut into old wood; that hole never fills. The redbud sets next spring’s flowers this summer, so timing decides whether you get blooms. The ginkgo mostly wanted to be left alone.

A guy with a chainsaw sees five trees. An ISA-certified arborist sees five species, five growth habits, and five different right answers.

Your lawn gets mowed, watered, and fed, and it still comes in thin. That is not your fault, and it is not the seed.

Underneath, the soil has packed down tight. Roots cannot breathe. Water runs off instead of soaking in. You can pour everything you have into the top and never reach the part that actually matters.

Three ginkgos on one property, and only one of them makes a mess.

The tree out front center is a female, and she is fruiting. Those soft orange seeds all over the walk are hers. The bigger ginkgo beside her, nearly twice the trunk size, drops nothing. Ginkgos come in male and female trees, and only females produce seed.

That smell is butyric acid, the same compound that makes butter go rancid. And technically it is not fruit at all. Ginkgo is an ancient species, largely unchanged for 200 million years, and it makes seeds with a fleshy coat instead of true fruit.

There is also a young ginkgo in the back, trunk about the size of your wrist. Nobody knows what it is yet. Ginkgos rarely produce seed before about 20 years old, so it is a coin flip until it decides.

Here is what most homeowners do not hear: pruning will not stop the seed drop. Our team was hired for different work. Raising the canopies for clearance over the drive and walk, taking out weak limb structure, and reducing extended weight on one side of the large ginkgo so it does not tear out in a storm. That is what buys a tree another 50 years.
