Wyoming Rancher Hooks Home to Natural Gas Found Coming From Prairie Dog Hole

A Wyoming rancher is drawing attention after utility workers discovered he has been heating his home with natural gas coming from a prairie dog hole on his property.
The discovery was made after the utility company noticed the rancher's natural gas usage had remained at zero for nearly seven years despite the home being occupied year round.
The rancher said he first noticed the hole bubbling after heavy rain and eventually discovered a small but steady flow of natural gas coming from underground.
Rather than report it, he ran approximately 300 feet of pipe from the hole to his house and connected it to his existing propane system.
Officials say the setup is surprisingly elaborate and appears to have supplied enough gas to heat the home, run the water heater and operate a kitchen stove.
The rancher has reportedly been asked to disconnect the system while officials determine where the gas is coming from.
He has agreed to cooperate but questioned why anyone was concerned.
“Prairie dogs haven't sent me a bill yet.”

We had a customer call us on Friday with a complaint of her a/c dripping condensation. She pulled the filter, and it was soaking wet, and she noticed when she turned the a/c off at thermostat, the outside unit fan was still running. This is not normal. When our technician got there, he opened up the unit and found this big mouse nest with 4 mice in it. It had been there a while, and mice cause all sorts of issues! They had chewed on communication wiring, and due to them building the nest where they did, it caused the contactor to stick, not allowing fan to shut off. We got her back up and running, but those yearly checks are so important!

We recently had a Swenson Heating customer learn a very expensive lesson after responding to a Facebook ad advertising $199 UNLIMITED VENT CLEANING.

Sounds like a great deal, right?

Unfortunately, what they got was anything but.

The company showed up **in a car** with basically a **shop vac and a brush**.

They told the homeowner they were performing a **“deep cleaning.”** But from what we found afterward, **very little was actually cleaned.**

Then came the add-ons…

That $199 special turned into a $1,200 bill.

Do you have an airflow issue where top floor isn't getting much air, or a bedroom furthest from the furnace not feeling cold. This could be one of the reasons. This blower fan on the furnace has caked on dust that will severly diminish the blower capacity. This is why we recommend yearly tuneups on furnace & a/c.
