It is that time of year again when portable space heaters are pulled out of storage and used in our homes. Portable space heaters can be very dangerous and are one of the leading causes of structure fires. Here are some tips from Electrends on how to safely use your portable space heaters. 1) Be sure your heater is in good condition and not missing any guards or covers. be sure the power cord is not worn or broken. 2) Always place heaters on a firm level surface away from any combustible materials including drapery or furniture. 3) Fuel fired heaters should never be used indoors without proper ventilation. 4) Always plug your heater directly into a receptacle. Avoid using extension cords, splitters, and especially power strips. Hopefully this helps and have a safe Winter :)

✅Test all smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors
✅Replace batteries in smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors
✅Check levels and expiration dates on fire extinguishers
✅Review, update, and practice evacuation plans

These simple but important actions can help keep you and those around you safe from fires.
