Your septic tank does not care that it is 12 degrees outside.

If it’s full, it’s full. 😂

Septic tanks are generally pumped every three to five years, but the right schedule depends on household size, tank size, water use, and accumulated solids.

If yours is due, schedule it before the yard freezes.

Aunt Linda made chili for a cozy fall weekend.

Unfortunately, she made enough chili for the entire county. 😂

By day four, Uncle Mike had eaten all he could handle. So he picked up the leftover pot and headed toward the kitchen sink garbage disposal.

Linda yelled, **“MIKE! What are you doing?”**

Mike replied, “Getting rid of it.”

Then Dave appeared—at least in Mike’s conscience—and whispered, **“Don’t you dare send that to me.”

Chili contains grease, meat, beans, and food solids that can clog pipes, increase buildup, and make your septic tank fill faster.

**Dave Says:** “Your septic tank doesn’t want your leftovers

Freeze the extra chili, share it with a neighbor, or put it in the trash. Just don’t pour it down the drain.

Healthy grass helps protect the tank, pipes, and drain field from winter temperatures.

Keep healthy grass over the system—and save the extremely short mowing for somewhere else.

A week ago, Wisconsin received around **seven inches of rain**—and then the cold temperatures moved in before the ground had much time to dry out.

Your yard may look better on the surface, but the soil around your drain field could still be holding plenty of water.

Give your septic system a little breathing room by spreading out laundry, showers, and dishwasher use. And keep vehicles and heavy equipment off the drain field while the ground is wet and soft.

**Dave Says:** “Seven inches of rain followed by cold weather? Your septic system has been through enough. It doesn’t need eight loads of underwear, too.” 😂

Watch for slow drains, gurgling toilets, unusual odors, or standing water. If something doesn’t seem right, call Elsing Septic.

Today’s game: Where Did They Bury the Septic Lid?

There was no map.

No marker.

And apparently, no one who remembered where it was. 😂

So Dave started digging.

When a septic lid is buried too deeply or its location is unknown, simply reaching the tank can add time and work before pumping even begins.

Dave Says: “I came to pump the tank—not audition for an archaeology show.”

Know where your septic tank and access lid are located, and keep the area easy to reach.
