Your fence post is only as strong as the concrete around it.

A hole that’s too narrow doesn’t leave enough concrete to properly support the post. As a rule of thumb, we like to dig our holes about 3X the diameter of the post.

Don’t just dig deep. Dig wide enough, too.

Your gate brace has one job. Let’s at least point it in the right direction. 😏

When you’re building a gate, that diagonal brace should run from the BOTTOM on the hinge side to the TOP on the latch side.

Why? Because gravity has been ruining poorly built gates since the beginning of time.

Bottom hinge ➡️ Top outside.
Give your gate a fighting chance. 💪

Alan has been building fence since 1999, working his way up from installer to foreman to supervisor before becoming an owner of SWi, LLC. He earned his Certified Fence Professional designation at just 22 years old and is also a Certified Automated Gate Operator Installer, bringing more than 25 years of hands-on experience across residential, commercial, and industrial fencing.
