Did you know the beautiful Schuylkill Haven Demonstration Garden is cared for and maintained by volunteers from the Penn State Extension Master Gardener program?

🧑‍🌾Master Gardeners from Penn State Extension plan, plant, maintain, and continuously improve the garden as part of their ongoing training and service to the community. The garden serves as a living classroom, where research-based gardening practices are demonstrated and shared with the public.

👩‍🌾Being a Master Gardener is truly hands-on learning. Volunteers gain knowledge about plants, soils, pollinators, sustainable gardening, and more—while working together to create a space that educates and inspires visitors.

If you enjoy gardening, learning, and giving back to your community, consider becoming a Penn State Extension Master Gardener. New volunteers are always welcome!

🌱 The Secret to a Healthier, More Productive Garden Starts Underground! 🌱
Before you buy fertilizer or wonder why your plants aren't thriving, start with a soil test!
A Penn State soil test is one of the easiest—and most affordable—ways to learn exactly what your garden needs. The standard test measures your soil's:
🌿 pH
🌿 Nitrogen (N)
🌿 Phosphorus (P)
🌿 Potassium (K)
🌿 Calcium (Ca)
🌿 Magnesium (Mg)
🌿 Sulfur (S)
You'll receive a detailed report with customized recommendations based on what you're growing, including:
✅ Fertilizer recommendations
✅ Lime or sulfur applications to adjust pH
✅ The best timing for applications
Why guess when you can grow with confidence?
🌼 Soil test kits are available locally at the Penn State Extension – Schuylkill County Office.
