🌳 “Arborist” and “ISA Certified Arborist”—what’s the difference?
When hiring a tree service, you may see both terms. Here’s what homeowners should know:
🌿 Arborist describes someone who works in the care of trees. Using that title alone does not establish that they hold an ISA certification.
🌿 ISA Certified Arborist is an earned professional credential through the International Society of Arboriculture. It requires meeting experience and/or education requirements, passing a comprehensive exam, and maintaining the credential through ongoing learning and adherence to a Code of Ethics.
The credential belongs to an individual—not an entire company. Ask who holds the certification, request their credential number, and ask how that person will be involved in your project.
Certification is one part of choosing a tree service. Insurance, experience, detailed estimates, and proper tree care practices matter, too!
At ChipperTree Service LLC, owner Charles “Chip” Morgensen is an ISA Certified Arborist, PD-3176A. We encourage homeowners to ask questions and verify credentials, whoever they choose.
