Even after 25+ years, nature can still surprise us. 🌳
Gage, one of our crew members spotted something at a client's property that had all of us taking a closer look, and even Sam Whitehouse, a certified arborist who saw the photos.
This tree appears to have suffered a serious girdling injury at some point in its life. Notice the distinct line around the trunk and the unusual root-like growth developing above it.
Trees can sometimes produce adventitious roots — roots that form from trunk or stem tissue rather than the normal root system. In this case, the tree appears to be responding to significant stress in a pretty remarkable way.
We don't know the full history of what happened to this tree, so we're not going to pretend we have all the answers. But after all our years working with trees and landscapes, this is one we hadn't seen before.
Nature is pretty amazing — and there's always something new to learn.
