Every client asks for creative storage solutions, but not every Contractor is willing to give them. It takes planning creativity and craftsmanship utilize hard to access spaces. Custom touches like this do not come easily. This is part of a basement remodel and we installed a full closet to the right of this underneath the stairs that are to the left.

The #1 regret people have after building a custom home: they didn’t insulate the interior walls.

Most builders only insulate exterior walls because that’s what code requires. The walls between your bedroom and the laundry room? Between the master suite and the kids’ bathroom? Hollow. Paper-thin. Every flush, every cycle, every footstep, you hear all of it.

Ask your builder to spec mineral wool (Rockwool) or Safe’n’Sound batts in the interior walls around bathrooms, laundry, the master bedroom, and home office.

A few hundred dollars during framing. After drywall it’s not impossible, you can drill and fill with dense-pack insulation, but it costs a lot more and it’s disruptive to actually live through, dust and patching all over the house while your family is still in it.

If your kitchen has an older Formica countertop with a molded-in sink, you don’t necessarily need to replace the entire countertop.

In this project, I carefully cut out the original integrated sink and installed a new drop-in sink, giving the kitchen a fresh, updated look for a fraction of the cost of a full countertop replacement.

Not every countertop is a candidate for this, but when it is, this can be one of the highest-value kitchen upgrades you can make.
