This project began with a request for a humble bunkhouse. Its breathtaking site, a bluff of spruce and pine overlooking Casco Bay, inspired what evolved into a dramatic studio. Divided into two distinct halves and woven together by 1,000 square feet of cedar decking, the building creates complete immersion in its stunning surroundings.
Designed and built to maximize environmental sustainability and minimize its carbon footprint, the building features locally sawn white cedar siding, decking, and pergola framing, with seams painstakingly aligned across the walls, doors, and even the floors. Cabinetry, flooring, and trim are made of rift-sawn white oak.
As autumn settles in along the coast, the surrounding woods bring a whole new layer of color and character to this already unforgettable place. Built to embrace its seaside setting and endure the elements, it's a beautiful example of thoughtful design that feels right at home in every season. 🍂🌲
