Siding almost never fails in the middle. It fails where it meets something else.
Where it meets the ground, where it meets a window, where a deck ledger or a hose bib goes through it. Those are the places water gets a second chance.
Two things worth looking at on your own house this month, both from the ground: whether anything is stacked against the siding holding damp behind it, and whether the bottom course is sitting in soil or bark rather than clear of it. Both are free to fix and neither needs a contractor.
The photo is a wall we finished this year. The part that matters is underneath it and nobody will ever see it.
If you find something and cannot tell whether it matters, put a photo in the comments and I will tell you what I would be looking at.
