Extraordinary homes don’t happen by accident.

In our world of custom building, there is rarely a shortcut. The homes we build can take years, hundreds of decisions, thousands of hours, and an extraordinary level of collaboration to bring drawings to life. And often, the most meaningful work is the work no one will ever see, the detail that had to be done twice, the joint that had to be perfect, the problem solved before anyone knew there was a problem, and the person who stayed with it until it was right.

We’re currently underway on a new project on Great Wass Island in Beals, Maine, where a waterfront site overlooking Sand Cove is beginning its transformation into a retirement retreat.

The project will include a main house with wrap-around screened porches, a guest house, a reading studio, and a pump house for water filtration. With its remote coastal setting, this one comes with some unique logistics, making close coordination with local trade partners especially important as the project comes together.

After 27 years at Wright-Ryan, Greg Lanou is beginning a well-earned retirement. Greg’s impact can be felt across the entire company, but especially within Wright-Ryan Homes. His belief in the work, dedication to the craft, and commitment to doing things the right way helped shape Homes into what it is today. He has been a friend, mentor, leader, and source of more than a few unforgettable one-liners. Greg brought deep knowledge, integrity, and care to everything he did, and countless people across Wright-Ryan are better because of his influence. Thank you, Greg, for all you have given to Wright-Ryan over the past 27 years. You will be deeply missed, and we wish you and your family all the best in this next chapter.

We’re excited to share that the Spectre House, a Wright-Ryan Homes project designed by Jessie Carroll Architect, received a Citation Award for Excellence in Architecture in this year’s AIA Maine Awards.

Located on Great Diamond Island, the home was recognized for its bold design, craftsmanship, and thoughtful use of light. The jury described the Spectre House as “an elegant, well-crafted project,” noting the quality of the interior spaces and the way natural light moves throughout the home.
