I know I don’t post enough, but I wanted to take a moment to brag about some amazing things happening at Wise Eyes Renovations.
This past year, I made a quiet yet bold pivot to focus on energy retrofit upgrades across Oregon. In just one year, I earned four certifications:
SHP – Sustainable Homes Professional
BSP – Building Science Principles
BA-T – Building Analyst Technician
BA-P – Building Analyst Professional
While I can’t say with 100% certainty, I am almost positive I am one of the FIRST Black Women to complete all four certifications, allowing me to work directly on Portland Clean Energy (PCEF) projects.
But this is bigger than certifications.
For decades, many low-income and historically underserved communities were left out of energy efficiency improvements. Because of redlining, disinvestment, and systemic inequities, families in these neighborhoods often live in homes that are older, less efficient, more expensive to heat and cool, and sometimes unhealthy. That means higher utility bills, poorer indoor air quality, and fewer resources left for the things families actually need.
Clean energy and retrofit work is about more than reducing carbon. It’s about equity. It’s about lowering energy burdens, improving health, increasing comfort, and bringing long-overdue investment back into communities that were once overlooked.
And this is exactly why my seat at the table matters.
I come from the communities I serve. I understand the challenges, the pride, and the resilience that lives there. Being in this position allows Wise Eyes Renovations to help make sure these resources reach the people who need them most, while also creating opportunity along the way.
My goal isn’t just to do the work. It’s to build pathways.
As Wise Eyes grows in the clean energy space, I’m working toward developing apprenticeship opportunities that will train the next generation of skilled trades professionals. I want our future builders to understand building science, energy efficiency, and sustainability from day one so they can think green, build smarter, and create healthier homes for years to come.
This moment represents growth, responsibility, and purpose. Wise Eyes Renovations isn’t just renovating homes. We’re helping rebuild systems, opportunity, and access.
