I once had an employer that told me there is a difference between work integrity and integrity. There is no difference. Integrity isn't something that "is", it is something that you "do". It is a way of life. You can't have a little integrity. You either have it or you don't.
Integrity is more than just telling the truth to other people. It's also telling the truth to yourself. Being true to yourself and others is a lifestyle. If you lie to yourself then you will lie to others. People don't realize that living with integrity is easier than living a life of scheming, lying, and blaming.
The RUMOR is it's hard to tell people the truth. It's hard to make it in life being the "boy scout". "Making it in life" isn't about the material possessions you obtain. It's not about this mysterious and unattainable "happiness" people are after. It's about looking back and being satisfied with a life well lived. It's about living a life without the stress of carrying the weight of lies and the pain they caused to others as well as yourself.
If you are someone who believes there are different types of integrity or someone that thinks they are getting ahead in life by stepping on anyone in order to get there, keep in mind that you might "get ahead" in your view but we all cross the same finish line and when you are about to cross that finish line you will realize (hopefully) all the blood, sweat, and tears you caused others for your material possessions and your false sense of accomplishment. It will be too late then to change.
Live a life of integrity.
This is just my take on it, anyway. Feel free to add to it.
