Today I’m hilling up all the corn, planting TWO varieties of pole beans — Kentucky Wonder & Rattlesnake — and staying on top of pest control with BT.

🐛 Found about 4 worms hiding in the corn, which is exactly why I keep saying: BT needs to be part of your WEEKLY routine when the bugs are active.

And these pole beans aren’t just here for the harvest 👀 As legumes, they work with soil bacteria to fix nitrogen, helping build fertility in the soil while growing alongside the corn.

My cabbage patch is looking good, but the bugs are definitely trying me! 🐛🥬 With all the heavy rain lately, keeping the BT on the leaves has been a challenge, so I’m giving the plants another treatment and putting the insect netting back on for the next week or two.

I’m also adding garlic and red bunching onions around the cabbage as companion plants to help strengthen the garden setup and add another layer of protection.

This is real gardening—sometimes you have to adjust the plan when the weather and pests start fighting back!

Y’all remember when I dug into my potato grow bag and found nothing but ROTTEN potatoes? 😩🥔

Well, I told y’all we weren’t giving up!

I replanted with Purple Majesty potatoes, and now they’re officially BREAKING THROUGH THE SOIL! 💜🙌🏾

Today we’re starting the HILLING PROCESS, gradually adding soil around the plants as they grow to help protect the developing potatoes.

This is what gardening is all about! Sometimes things don’t work out the first time, but every setback teaches us something valuable.

And the best part? We’re growing PURPLE potatoes! 🥔💜

Now the real question is… HOW BIG WILL THIS HARVEST BE? 👀🔥

👇 LET’S TALK! Have you ever grown purple potatoes? If so, how was your harvest?

🌱 We don’t just grow vegetables around here. We grow knowledge, patience, and FOOD INDEPENDENCE! 💪🏾

THREE WEEKS OF GROWTH AND WE’RE JUST GETTING STARTED! 🥬🌱🔥

It’s been three weeks since I transplanted my Champion, Top Chop, and Georgia Southern collard greens, and the patch is coming along beautifully!

Now we’re moving into the next phase of the garden: COMPANION PLANTING! 🌿

Today I’m adding garlic 🧄 and red scallions 🧅 to the bed, joining the dill and cilantro I already have growing.

Why companion plant?

🌱 Make better use of garden space
🐝 Help attract beneficial insects when herbs flower
🌿 Increase plant diversity
🥬 Create a more productive and balanced garden

My goal isn’t just to grow vegetables. It’s to learn, experiment, and show others that growing your own food is possible right in your backyard!

And the best part? We’re only THREE WEEKS IN!

💬 GARDEN FAMILY, LET ME HEAR FROM YOU! What do you like planting alongside your collard greens?
