Good drainage starts below the surface. 💧🚜

Gill Construction is digging a drainage system for this new home construction project.

Drainage pipe, stone, and filter fabric work together to help manage water, while the fabric helps keep soil and sediment from clogging the system.

It’s work you won’t see once it’s covered, but it’s an important part of the project.

Why do we roll the ground before moving on to the next step?

Because looking level and being ready to build on are two different things.

Loose soil has air pockets between its particles. Under the weight of a driveway, building, or other finished surface, that soil can settle unevenly. That can lead to sinking areas, cracks, and costly repairs.

That’s where our smooth-drum roller comes in. Rolling compacts the material, pressing particles closer together and reducing those air pockets. This creates a denser, stronger base that can better support weight and helps reduce future settling.

At Gill Construction, site prep is about more than how the ground looks. It’s about preparing it for what comes next.

A backyard transformation starts from the ground up.

For this new home construction project, the Gill Construction team brought in approximately 300 tons of dirt to backfill an old pond, establish a level building-ready backyard, and complete the grading needed for the next phase of the property.

While the land work takes shape, our crew is also completing the seawall along the shoreline, helping create a finished waterfront space that is built for both function and long-term protection.
